"Worlds Apart"

(This page is dedicated to Tommy Fisher)
I  see the same stars through my windows that you see through yours.  But we're worlds apart ... worlds apart.  And you see the same skies through brown eyes that I see through blue.  But we're worlds apart ... worlds apart.

Just like the earth ... just like the sun ... two worlds together are better than one.
I see the sun rise in yours eyes like you see in mine.  But we're worlds apart ... worlds apart.

I see the friendship in your eyes that you see in mine.   But we're worlds apart ... world's apart.

Together ... but worlds apart.

"Worlds Apart"  -- as sung by Huckleberry Finn and Jim in the Broadway musical "BIG RIVER" -- Music and Lyrics by Roger Miller
If I could catch a rainbow
I would do it just for you
And share with you its beauty
on the days you're feeling blue
If I could build a mountain
You could call your very own
A place to find serenity
A place to be alone
If I could take your troubles
I would toss them in the sea
But all these things I'm finding are impossible for me
I cannot build a mountain
or catch a rainbow fair
But let me be what I know best
A friend who's always there

LISTEN TO YOUR DREAMS

Do not take anything as being forever because forever is only as long as today. Know that the people who are the richest are not those who have the most, who need the least.

That we are at our strongest when life is at it's worst, and at our weakest when life no longer offers a challenge.

Know that it is wiser not to expect, but to hope -- for in expecting you ask for disappointment, whereas in hoping you invite surprise.

That unhappiness doesn't come from not having something you want ... but from the lack of something inside you that you need.

That there are things to hold and things to let go, and letting go doesn't mean you lose, but that you acquire that which has been waiting around the corner.

Most of all ...
Remember to use your dreams as a way of knowing yourself better and as an inspiration for you to reach your star ...

Occasionally, life will introduce something, or someone, new into your existence when you least expect it -- something, or someone, who will change your life forever.  That's what happened to me in 1992 when I met a 10-year-old inner city kid by the name of Tommy.  He stole my heart immediately, and although in my youth work I have had contact with very special kids who are still a big part of my life, Tommy is different.  I was never blessed with a brother or a son.  However, if I ever had the opportunity to choose anyone for one of those two roles, I would choose Tommy. He is my friend, my little brother, and my "surrogate" son -- all rolled into one.  I thank God that he is a part of my life.
